Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage Operations

NOTE: THIS IS A SYLLABUS SUPPORT PACK. YOU WILL STILL NEED TO SIT THE EXTERNAL OCR EXAM TO GAIN FULL QUALIFICATION.

This course will, if you are successful at the examinations, lead to a Certificate of Professional Competence for the carriage of goods. The examinations are marked externally by the Oxford, Cambridge and Royal Society for the Arts (OCR) which is the organisation recognised by the Department for Transport as being the competent authority in the UK for the purposes of recognising and assessing competence under the requirements of EU Directive 96/26 (as amended) on the admission to the occupation of haulage or passenger transport operator. This qualification is recognised throughout the European Community.

The course is recognised as being equivalent to NVQ Level 3. It is not an easy course as it covers a very wide range of disciplines and is not purely confined to the operation of a commercial goods and/or passenger vehicles. In Unit R1 you will study the legal aspects of setting up and winding down a business, finance, tax liabilities, employment law, industrial relations, health and safety etc before moving on to more closely transport related matters. You will need to understand and be able to answer questions on the full range of topics covered in order to be successful at the examinations.
